Turkish government,
I am writing to express my deep concern and to submit a formal complaint regarding reports of a drone attack in Somalia that allegedly resulted in the deaths and injuries of innocent civilians. According to reports from local residents and community members, the attack was allegedly carried out by drones operated or supported by Turkey as part of ongoing military operations in Somalia.
The reported incident has caused significant fear, grief, and anger among the affected communities. Families have allegedly lost loved ones, and civilians who were not participating in any armed conflict have reportedly suffered injuries and damage to their homes and livelihoods.
International humanitarian law requires all parties involved in military operations to take every possible precaution to protect civilians and civilian infrastructure. Any allegation that civilians were harmed during a military operation should be thoroughly, independently, and transparently investigated.
I respectfully request that the relevant authorities and international human rights organizations:
- Conduct an independent and impartial investigation into the reported drone attack.
- Establish the facts surrounding the incident, including the identity of those responsible for authorizing and carrying out the operation.
- Determine whether all reasonable precautions were taken to avoid civilian casualties.
- Provide justice, accountability, and appropriate compensation to the victims and their families if wrongdoing or violations of international law are established.
- Ensure that measures are put in place to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
The people of Southern Somalia deserve protection, transparency, and accountability. Civilian lives must be respected regardless of the circumstances, and allegations of unlawful harm should never be ignored.
I urge your organization to take this complaint seriously and to support a credible investigation into the reported incident so that the victims and their families can receive truth and justice.
